The Blue Castle, published in 1926, is the story of a dowdy young woman called Valancy Stirling. I’m glad I did, because it’s become a favourite book, and I re-read it every few years or so. I was familiar with her Anne of Green Gables series (which, naturally, I already owned), and other popular works. When I found The Blue Castle in a used book store decades ago, I’d never heard of that title by L.M. Used bookstore find: 1926’s The Blue Castle by L.M. But there’s one book I don’t think I’ll ever part with: The Blue Castle by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Having become overrun with books at home, I’ve divested myself of many of the classics I’d accumulated over the years. I don’t go into used book stores much these days, unless I’m looking for an out-of-print or otherwise hard-to-find book. At the time, I was keen on filling my bookshelves with handsomely-bound classics. Years ago, I used to love prowling around in used book stores.
